Sadie Loves her Fluff!

Sadie and her sidekick Lily enjoy snuggling up in the loftiest, fluffiest blankets and pillows they can find. Here is Sadie breaking a rule by resting on a pillow. Lily is near by.

Sadie contemplates next move from her hiding place under the throw.

Sadie, of Sadie and Lily, has a large vocabulary. It suits her since she is a vocal dog. She may be small in stature but she never misses an opportunity for her voice to be heard. Here’s the rundown:

Go Sadie Go *runs real fast, especially up the stairs*

Go home Sadie *darts down the block to our stoop and waits for door to open, Lily lags behind*

Wait Sadie *stops and retreats*

icccckkkkkk *considers NOT eating something she is sniffing*

Off *jumps off furniture and jumps back on again, as if it was the most fun a dog could have on earth*

Mine *Sadie yawns to pretend that she is ok giving up on a toy, rawhide, or nugget of food*

Sit Sadie *Sadie sits!*

Let’s Go Sadie *Sadie trots with you to the next destination*

Up *Sadie has permission to hop on the bed, chair or sofa and does so in an instant*

Right Now *Sadie must come immediately because she is lost in the forest, thick bushes, or some other place more interesting than her walk route*

Sadie and Lily have started today in full throttle. They have been chasing each other through the house hoping for a treat, toy, rawhide, or outdoor activity. Sadie already enjoyed an egg. They have shredded a toy and left it on deck for future playful activity. Lily is angling for a coveted can of food. She nudges the can with her nose since it is on an open shelf near her food station. Sadie is currently playing possum. She likes to pretend that nothing much will interest her by fake-napping on the sofa or on Lily’s chair. The nano-second that we make a move for the door or kitchen Sadie will present herself as Ready-To-Go. Lily will carefully study Sadie the squirt. If it looks like Sadie is on to something big, like a car ride or extra tasty treat, Lily is in. Otherwise, she will not be bothered to lift her head from her resting position. MM & RY 2011

Sadie and Lily love to play at a place we call the playground. It’s a corner of Fairmount Park that has been taken over by dogs in the mornings and afternoons near the Art Museum in Philadelphia. Today we were mostly on our own. Lily enjoyed thrashing on the dirt. Sadie investigated all of the smells and scouted out our route. At times Lily, our stubborn boxer, decided she did not want to go. Everyone had a great time because spring is in the air. Here are some photos of our walk. MM & RY 2011

Lily the Smoosh Up Close

Here is a recent photo of Lily, AKA the smoosh, up close. She is going gray at just four years old. We think her best pal, Sadie – AKA our mini poodle and first class squirt, taunts her mercilessly. Lily’s disposition is nearly always sweet and good natured. But every once in a while she lets Sadie know that she is number one. MM & RY 2011

Sadie is looking fashionable today because she was just clipped yesterday. Lily has been witnessed to run at full throttle on the playground all week now that the snow has melted and the ground is somewhat dry. Here are some photos of the dogs from the last few months while we have been on hiatus. MM & RY 2011

Sadie is in her usual position, at the top of the sofa looking out of the windows. She is always on alert. She is the alarmist and Lily is the muscle.

Lily, AKA the smoosh, has a lot of unique positions on her favorite chair. This one is her super-duper puppy curl, when she is the tiniest she can be despite her "almost" 80 pound body.

Sadie is shown here at her shaggiest. When we can't see the eyes, it is time for a visit to Barbie the groomer.

Lately, Sadie and Lily's favorite chair is draped with two striped blankets plus the girls themselves. Every day in Fairmount ends the same way - with Sadie and Lily huddled together something like this.

Sadie's fixated on the view from her couch

When the sun reappears, Sadie monitors for the sounds of shovels

Sadie and Lily monitor the doors and windows on our street. The view through the window gives a glimpse of the blizzard two days ago. The second photo shows Sadie carefully scrutinizing the sounds outside when the shoveling begins. She barks if its too close, too loud, or too inconsistent. Lily is a little more laid back about the near constant activity outside. Both of them wait eagerly for their opportunity to go for the next walk, snow trek, or quick errand in the car. Everywhere we go we encounter the same joyous little dogs, so happy to be out and about with their people, sniffing ludicrous amounts of information and galloping through mounds of snow. They seem to know this is a once in a lifetime pleasure. Watch Lily go in the video below.  MM & RY 2010
