She was posted on the top of the sofa. Fairmount Dog Stories fans know Sadie’s pose. She started to quiver and grrr in the midst of a doggie dream. We called her name: “Sadie?” Lily raised her head from her nap just in time to see Sadie tumble off the sofa onto the wood floor. Thump! Sadie peaked around the sofa, eyes still closed from her nap. We said “come Sadie,” to see if she could walk and was OK. She walked forward growling; and with her eyes still closed, she crawled back onto her post at the top of the sofa in front of the window.
Her understandable bad mood continued at the playground. There she growled at an adorable six month old bulldog puppy and another beauty of a dog named Louis, a ten month old gray brindle great dane. When Sadie snapped at Louis, we ran to grab her: “Are you crazy? Louis is like 20 times your size!” She took a time out in the shade and chewed on an ice cube from Bali’s water bottle to redirect her energy.
She did not really socialize too much after that, but slowly she calmed down. Her behavior has been odd ever since her return from boarding last week. We asked how she was during boarding; the response was: “pretty good.” We suspect that means something closer to “truly terrible,” but no one wants to share the details.
The extreme heat isn’t helping. It has been hard to commit to our normal exercise regime. Last night she got a little extra tlc, some tasty snacks, and play time with her best pal Lily. Lily can’t be shrugged off by Sadie’s growls and pouts. She is a dependable mate no matter what the mood of the squirt happens to be.
Hopefully today we return to the normal mid-day nap routine minus the tumble, watching the Tour, following our Twitter friends’ tweets, reading Allez 915’s race reviews on Velonoise and reading Huffpo articles about presidential politics.
