Most of our dog management has to do with addressing the unique needs of the squirt, Sadie. Today is a good example of how it works. It has been raining most of the day so the dogs, needless to say, have been restless. The usual time for romping at the playground passed long before there was a break in the rain. When it finally did, we decided that Lily could go to the playground but Sadie needed to stay at home.
This isn’t the first time that Lily has played and Sadie has stayed.
Why the differential treatment?
First – it’s the hair. Sadie’s is super curly. Second – it’s that Sadie likes to romp in the forest, where she gets thistles, leaves, twigs, dirt, and other stuff stuck on her paws and in her hair. Third (as we described in a prior post) she rolls in dead stuff. Fourth – it’s muddy, which means that Sadie will absolutely need a bath.
We make up for it by running stairs with her in the house. Sadie runs stairs with gusto. Stair running is a must because any day Sadie is not properly exercised leads to a night of amped up puppy crazies and extra taunts for Lily.
Lily enjoyed a few magical, Sadie-free, moments this afternoon playing with two of her puppy friends under the wet trees at the playground. Sadie ran the steps, with gusto of course. Everyone is napping now.
