Dog walkers, pedestrians, visitors, residents – all rely on publicly managed waste disposal cans to maintain a clean community. Pet waste disposal has been a contentious issue in Fairmount in recent months. With the shut down of the Dog Pen, a dog park that was located at the corner of Brown and Corinthian Streets on the Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site, numerous complaints about soiled sidewalks have proliferated the blogosphere, particularly at Phillyblog.com. (See Philadelphia Weekly story.)
Several new trash cans have been located in the neighborhood. We have created a mash-up of trash cans near the site of the Dog Pen for those who may be interested. We will expand this mash-up map over the coming weeks to provide a comprehensive archive of waste disposal sites in the neighborhood. Please share your comments and send along additional sites we have missed to: sadieandlily@gmail.com.
